I’m frustrated

Very Unhappy with the Support for this product.

I have purchased an Unlimited license for this product for the past 3 years. Most of that time i have been waiting for promised features that have been subjected to delays.

Only recently have i started to need help with bugs or the implementation of very poorly explained features i need to use in my projects. Its frustrating to spend hours of work implementing a function only to find out its not supported in the UI I have chosen to use. Touchui is great but the documentation and support for it is poor. Blogs and Learning material should be updated to include which versions of COT they will work with, not only that but also the UI choice and now the aspx or SPA model.

I apologise in advance if i've got the purpose of this forum wrong but i am under the impression its a place where we help each other with problems and receive support from Codeontime employees? If thats the case then the biggest frustration for me is the lack of satisfactory support i've received in this forum from COT. I don't expect every problem to be fixed right away and sometimes there isn't a solution to some of the problems due to design, i accept that. But what i don't accept is to be ignored and for my problems to just disappear down the thread list without any response from customer support.

This isn't a hobby, i as do many others pay allot of money for a tool which is used to assist in developing business applications. I have deadlines to meet and at the end of the day, if you cannot support me as a customer then i'll have to make a business decision to not renew my subscription. Codeontime is not the only development tool of this kind on the market.

I've linked my requests for support below which have either not had any response from customer service or the response i received was not complete or sufficient.

this was fixed in 8.5 update.

I'd appreciate it if you could consider my points above and help me resolve the problems i've linked.

Thanks

  • I agree
Frustration levels are getting very high
This is not difficult tfor COT to fix
Some common sense would be useful at this time

  • Tali, we are not ignoring your responses. The questions are answered as time permits. Both this forum and our ticket-based system are free of charge. Sometimes we can get a resolution to a problem fast, in other situations it may take longer.

If you need help fast then purchase a consultation at http://codeontime.com/services and we will have someone take a look at your project over Webex.

  • Anthony, we are aware of several issues that you have submitted. Another update with minor fixes will go out early next week.

  • Documentation is being worked on. Every feature will be described in details. We are not building this stuff to have it hidden.

CMS, DCC, DACL and all of the other abbreviations will be clearly explained and advertised as soon as possible.

  • I agree Tali the support is slow. If it's super urgent I usually lock in one hour time for COT one-on-one. It's pretty good for 150 bux an hour and worth every penny. You can probably get all your pending issues resolved in that block of time.

  • The general support of this product is terrible. Almost no support. No real documentation. Every once in a while a blog post that says "hey you can use this css tag to do such customization!" and apparently there is another 100 which you are just supposed to magically guess.

I am really losing my hope that this tool can be any helpful to me. For generating a straight forward app that just works like and advanced excel sheet, it is amazing, but even as a developer I haven't been able to figure out how to, for example, do some most basic edit & customization on the side bar that is generated by the app or to controls that are placed in the dataviews.
    • Behrooz,

The general support (this site and http://support.codeontime.com) is free. Some questions require a developer to take time to provide an answer. We do that as time permits. You can always purchase a consultation at http://codeontime.com/services if the time is of essense.

You can find hundreds of tutorials at http://codeontime.com/learn. Explore categories on the right-hand side of the page.

It appeas that you consider our product to be a template generator. For example, you want to "do some most basic edit & customization on the side bar that is generated by the app or to controls that are placed in the dataviews". Our product is not a template generator, it is an application generator. That is exactly why is does quite a few things in an amazing way with very little effort on your part. At the same time it is highly customizeable though you have to follow certain developement guidelines and possibly accept some limitations.

We provide the application framework that treats the sidebar as a high level user interface element. Multiple components of the app a sharing this element and therefore you can not just place some random content there. You have to play by the same rules the other components of the app are following.

Also keep in mind that Touch UI in particular is designed to work on desktop and touch devices. The latter may not have the sidebar at all due to the screen size limitations.

What exactly do you want to place on the sidebar?

What exactly do you want to do to the controls in the data views?

  • When will this feature which is listed on your product description page be true ?

    "Universal Mobile / Desktop Client

If you are building a web app for desktop devices, then you have already created the mobile version of the app. The opposite is true as well. Your app will link pages to a corresponding universal client library to ensure the best possible end-user experience on any device."

  • I’m frustrated
I purchased a consultation(1 hour). I wanted to see if we could get SSRS Reporting into our system. In the end we linked a web page to microsoft.com which is not close to SSRS Reporting. The product seems to run well and looks good in touch ui, however there are a lot of features which may or may not work in touch ui. Every support ticket I put in gets responded to and if they find it too hard, gets skipped over and they move on to something else. I contacted Serg at COT today to see about scheduling another WebEx, I do not wish to pay more money if they would not explain it. In the end he said they don't guarantee their work.

    In the end
    Support system: awful
    Design: Very Nice
    Customization: Could be better

I have to give some credit though, I switched from IronSpeed and COT has worked a heck of a lot better

  • I think Serge does a pretty good job considering the price but that's just my point of view.

I would say "yes" support is awful if you were paying a premium but you're not.

In conclusion, If you weigh out the quality, flexibility, support, architecture, features, stability of the product it is pretty damn good. Not excellent but good. So far I haven't found anything that is excellent in all areas. Overall COT is the best value in the market right now if you were to compare overall value.

I do use another product by Telerik. If you want super good support that's the product to buy. Although it is somewhat similar to COT the paradigm is completely different. COT is more db centric to drive the delivery of the app. Telerik's paradigm is more UI centric. The similarity between the two is that they both save you a lot of time of development and maintains a consistent code-base.
