Report View
instead of downloading the reports, i think you should consider adding a report view, just as we have the grid, form, and chart view. with the report view, a custom report or generated rdlc report are displayed. with this implemented, it will help us do away with having to display the grid view and then selecting pdf, word etc to view the report.

I have already built a report view via a custom report.aspx page, that process is pretty straight forward by serializing the request & passing it to the report viewer. Don't see what benefit it would be to offer a report view out of the box.
What would be nice per me is some sort of dashboard page that allows end-user to select the controller + views that they want to see along with default filters. This combined with the visualization capabilities can help present information in a dashboard using graphs. -

6This idea is on our wish list already.
Does anyone else think we should go ahead with this and build a "Report" view?

I think this is only worthwhile if it has all features like printing etc. That's the only reason I use Report->PDF feature - so that people can print it out.
The problem I see is that you don't always get an accurate print when trying to print from web content, though I could be wrong..

it would be nice to preview data and direct printing (using default local printer), who need the pdf anyway? do you pdf collector? ^_^

Web pages are not able to initiate printing.
We are contemplating to create a report viewer that will work with TIFF versions of the reports. -

No-one can trust how things will print from web page. That's the only reason to use PDF's - you know how its going to print out. All my reports I generate to PDF for that reason.

@pat, ok2. but the pdf need to download before printing, what I need is no need to download (for security reason) - just open with compatible reader -- and print.

Have you got a bit more detail on how you would do this?

We will post a significant number of new tutorials dedicated to reporting. The tutorials rely on Drag & Drop capabilities of Project Explorer that will become available in the release due out next week.

Honestly, I'm using 3rd party reporting solutions like Crystal reports or Telerik when I need additional features. IMO, depending upon COT for a proper reporting solution to meet all needs is umm... hopeful?
Can you use 3rd party control embedded? I know it is difficult to integrate properly...
Pat.-
Pat,
Could you please tell us how to integrate with Telerik? -

This is a big point for us. It would be great if CoT can show the report in CoT window without displaying the data as a tab option.
