new created user cannot login

when I create a new user using the membership page. The record is created in the db and roles associated correctly. The record is created as Approved however, when attempting to login with new user and correct password I get an error message about incorrect user name and/or password.

    Is this from a legacy app?

    Passwords are not stored in the database. The app expects that hashed password values are stored instead. Your app incorporates a validation key used to hash the passwords. If the user signs in then the password is hashed. The user is located in the database. The app compares hashed password with the value stored in the database.

    If your user accounts were created with another app then the passwords will not be matched.

  • I added the user through the ASP membership page automatically built when I generated the touchUI application. The information saved into the db and in the row insert both a salt value and a hashed password. After adding a new user there were 3 rows in table the 2 default admin and user with their default passwords admin123% and user123%. My new user was showing as approved and looks just like the other rows with no missing columns of information in either user or membership tables. email address shows up as well. The role I assigned to the new user also shows in the db and shows related to the new account but when I try to login with the new account I get the incorrect username and/or password. I have deleted the account and added a different one with same results. I can sign in with default admin and user accounts just not new account.

  • I had a similar problem and error message, but the issue was I was not using a correct password format.

    I am not sure what the correct format is, but I tried duplicating the one used in the COT samples. xxxxx123% and it works. For some reason COT was NOT giving me an error on the format so I assume it was saving the record but not the password. That created the error message I was seeing.

    Obviously I need to learn what the correct password format is, but at least in my case it isolated the issue to the password being the problem.

  • In sample app created with 8.7.3.0, it returns error messages displayed in a notification at the bottom of the screen. If you try to create a user with a password of "a", do you receive an error message?

    This is working. I have just updated when prompted and while nothing indicated that membership was part of that fix, I am able to create new accounts, login with those accounts and remove the accounts using the interface I sent earlier.
