I’m confused

Database Views

Is it possible to add a database view as a grid, and then add another view as a child of the DB view that will display on the select event?
I have tried to do this but on clicking on the veiw of the DB view grid nothing is displayed under it?

  • Make sure you have 'Query By Example' enabled on the field in the child view. Otherwise this should work fine.
Otherwise, can you post screen shot of it not working?

Thanks Pat, the field of the child view is marked as "Query by example".
    I have attached a screenshot.
Note that the Grid view under "My Accounts" is derived from a controller based on a DB view. I am not sure if views are only used for reports or if you can use them like this?
    Thanks for your help

  • I can't see a problem with using views like this. It's not different to using standard query - COT just knows it cannot update it.

Can you show how you have setup the dataview on the page?

ie in my case the field bookingDate is in the parent controller DateLookup:
(note my child dataview is at top of the list for silly reason):

Without seeing your project in details, it's difficult to say why ist not working unfortunately.

    Pat.

  • I am not sure either. Below is screenshot of page setup. dv107 is the child of dv106.
dv107 filters on HeaderID that exists in dv106 and dv107.
If i click on dv106 nothing is shown in dv107 - i notice that on normal controllers the first column is shown as underlined when you hover over it whereas with a dv106 this does not happen - it is like there is nothing attached to the click event on the grid?
