  • I have an offline sync license question that is not covered by your licensing model . I have a customer who would require about 150 concurrent licenses for about 30 days a year. The rest of the year they would require about 10 licenses. They are a seasonal business having two main seasons each lasting about 2 weeks each. They have approximately 100 remote locations that have only cellular data access (no wifi) during the season. I had previously developed their cellular data access application using COT when the mobile UI first came out. The spotty cellular reception and the COT mobile application were unusable at that time using cellular service only. Continuous downloads of lookup lists etc proved too data intensive for cell service. The application worked fine when using wifi. However this was of no use to my customer and I had to eat the cost of this development. I think ODP will help in this situation but I believe Offline sync would be necessary to ensure no data loss when using spotty cell coverage.

Will there be an offline sync license model to cover this situation where many extra licenses are needed for short periods ?

Any insight into license cost would be helpful for me and this customer in making a decision as to whether to wait on the COT offline sync solution or continue down an alternate path. The delivery time frame of this solution would be May of 2018. I would prefer to use the COT solution but ongoing licensing cost is something I need to be upfront with this customer about.

The mobile side of COT has made great strides this past year and appreciate your efforts to keep the Roadmap more up to date. It is an exciting time to be a COT developer.
